About Opportunity

The globally recognized institution Singapore Art Museum is launching its third cycle of residency programs for international and local contemporary artists and curators. SAM is currently accepting applications for its Artist, Community & Education, and Curatorial & Research residencies, which will take place in studios for one to six months. Artists from around the world and across all artistic mediums and disciplines are encouraged to apply. SAM Residencies Cycle 3, scheduled from April 2025 to September 2026, will explore themes such as allyship & solidarity, the creation of alternative knowledge, and fluidity & interdisciplinary thinking. Applications will be evaluated by an international panel of jurors. The seletec artists will get accommodation and a monthly stipend.

About Organizer

Singapore Art Museum was founded in 1996 as the first art museum in Singapore. Also known as SAM, presents contemporary art from a Southeast Asian perspective for artists and art lovers in multiple venues across the island. 

SAM Residencies is a museum-run, fully-funded programme dedicated to encouraging the development of contemporary curatorial and artistic practices that respond to current global dialogues.

Types of Residency Programs :

  • Artist Residency – open to artists and collectives who are looking to develop artistic practices and emergent modes of art-making.

  • Community & Education Residency – open to practitioners who explore the relationship between art practice and forms of gallery education or whose core practice engages with local communities or the public in various ways.

  • Curatorial & Research Residency – open to curators and researchers who are working on new modes of curatorial thinking and research process.


Eligibility:

  • Both emerging and professional artists, curators and cultural practitioners over the age of 21, working in any artistic field, from all over the world,  can participate in the residency program 


Project/event location:

  • Singapore city, Republic of Singapore


Participation fee:

  • Participation is free


Award/prize: 

  • Travel and accommodation expenses are covered by the residency program

  • Monthly stipend - SGD$1,500

  • Studio art space

  • An “Ideas Lab” (co-working space for artists)
