About Opportunity

The internationally recognized MONSTRA is inviting local and international filmmakers and directors to participate in the 2025 Lisbon Animation Festival, scheduled for March 20 to 30, 2025. The festival welcomes animated films without thematic or aesthetic restrictions, provided that animated sequences comprise more than 60% of the total film. A selection committee appointed by the festival's artistic director will curate the official selection across various categories.

About Organizer

MONSTRA is the Lisbon Animation Festival that was founded in 2000. It aims to celebrate artistic diversity, facilitate interactions among various art forms, and convey new aesthetic perspectives.
MONSTRA is organised by Taumotrópio, Lda. and its main funders are ICA - Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual, the Creative Europe Programme - MEDIA and CML - Lisbon City Council.

Films will be awarded in following categories: 

  • Feature Films

  • Short Films

  • Student Short Films

  • Super Short Films

  • Perspectives

  • Short Films for Children and Young People 


Eligibility:

  • Both emerging and professional filmmakers or directors from all over the world can participate in this festival

Participation fee:

  • Participation is free


Award/prize: 

  • Film will be awarded in different categories by Jury’s special prizes

  • Promotion 


Application requirements:

  • Online application form

  • Authorization form

  • Artist statement

  • Personal information

  • Completion date for Feature Films is after 1st January, 2023 and for the other categories - after 1st August, 2023

  • Films with dialogue or text in a non-English language must include English subtitles
