About Opportunity

The U.K.-based Hesketh Hubbard Art Society, London’s largest life drawing organization, is inviting applications for three free year-long membership bursaries available to young emerging artists aged 18 to 30 who have had limited access to life or portrait drawing and painting. Successful applicants will receive the opportunity to attend weekly life drawing sessions at Mall Galleries, free of charge, beginning in January 2026. These untutored sessions, held on Friday and selected Monday evenings, provide artists with a structured yet self-directed environment to develop and refine their drawing skills. With approximately 44 sessions offered each year, participants will work from multiple live models, engaging in both short dynamic poses and extended nude or clothed portrait studies—promoting steady artistic growth and practice. Applicants are required to submit a portfolio and high-quality images of artworks that reflect their understanding of human nature and figure painting. All submissions will be reviewed by an international panel of judges, who will evaluate and shortlist the artists selected for the bursaries.

About Organizer

The Hesketh Hubbard Art Society was established in 1930 by the Royal Society of British Artists to provide artists with regular opportunities for life drawing. Named after its first president, Eric Hesketh Hubbard, the society has since grown into London’s largest and most established life drawing organization. Its mission is to offer both emerging and professional artists an inclusive space to practice and refine their skills through frequent, untutored sessions with live models, fostering artistic growth and excellence in figurative art.
