About Opportunity

Apila Ediciones, a globally recognized Spanish institution, in collaboration with the Aragon School of Design and with the support of its Town Hall, invites international illustrators to participate in the First Printing Award 2024. This competition is tailored for illustrators of any nationality who haven't previously published children's books with ISBNs. A distinguished panel of judges will be formed to choose winners, who will receive an award, that will consist of the signing of a professional contract with Apila Ediciones for the publication of the selected work. The goal of Apila’s First Printing Award is to encourage the creation of children’s picture books by unpublished illustrators.

About Organizer

Publishing house Apila Ediciones, was established in 2007, and is dedicated to producing illustrated children's books. The goal is to share stories that brighten the world of children and bring out the childlike spirit within every reader.

Eligibility:

  • All illustrators, of any nationality, over the age of 18 can participate

Participation fee:

  • Participation is free


Award/prize: 

  • Professional contract with Apila Ediciones for the publication

  • Publication funding 

  • Award - €4,000


Application requirements:

  • CV/portfolio

  • A PDF file (maximum 10 megabytes) of the finished book, written in English or Spanish (titled like: “LAST NAME_FIRST NAME _BOOK”)

  • A text file (indicating: personal information, blog or any profile link of the illustrator)

  • The projects may have any format, but may not exceed 40 pages (20 double pages), including legal pages (credits page and title page) and flyleaves
